Crazy to think the shit he'southward talking about 30 years agone is still applicable in this day and age, if not more than so.
Even though I'yard not the biggest Carlin fan, possibly less so the more I scout from him, I always find myself returning to his work. What stood out to me with bits on soft linguistic communication and the transformation of the way in which we say things (which, equally Carlin argues, never does much to change true pregnant), was Carlin'south unrelenting fidelity to what he sees to be elementary, bones truths. This seems to be the source of what makes him both funny and, equally he would later describe himself, a grumpy old fuck. Not a bad re-sentry.
Quite possibly Carlin's everyman quality HBO special. It never really flows at all, this 1, and it really is all over the punch. However, information technology'southward even so quite good.

Unremarkably Carlin was an expert at bringing together dissimilar strings in a show and organising them into a beautifully flowing routine, even when he digressed from a subject area. Here he just never manages it, and occasionally overdoes the political diatribes and allows them to but drift into rants rather than funny complaints. And there really is a difference.

He does manage to pack in some of his most challenging fabric, though, taking some mixed just occasionally brilliant potshots at middle form housewife feminists and people who use 'safe' linguistic communication. The best role…

Doin' It Again feels like a transitional Carlin special from his early on, sillier observational humor to the more pointed, acerbic and sometimes political material of his peers, which he'd perfect in his later specials.

There's a lot of multifariousness hither, which is both an asset and a liability, as hardcore fabric about feminists, death and war sits somewhat uneasily alongside goofier, more pedestrian, old school $.25 about things like dogs. Also, the opening bit nigh irritating phrases would exist revisited and done to much greater effect subsequently on as "Advertisement Lullabye." I'yard starting to notice, though, that Carlin usually likes to save 10-xv minutes of superlative flight material for the finale, and this 1 ends with a double whammy about…
My favorite thing about this is his insightfulness about language and thought manipulation through language. Information technology is a topic he covers frequently but he is more pointed and angry here. His message can seem to contradict itself at times and is not equally organized as usual. Not equally many laughs as caput nods.

Set Dressing: He has begun wearing his all black clothing. His backdrop is a grey building that resembles a prison.
Open/Close: Opens with him talking to someone like a psychiatrist and then a montage of past HBO specials.
Memorable Flake: The softening of our linguistic communication.
